Who am I? 

​​

I am Jacquie Potvin Boucher, an eccentric free-spirit, passionate about art and following dreams. Based in Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore, I have called Nova Scotia home for nearly 30 years. Originally from Northern Alberta, my Red River Métis roots inform a practice centered on storytelling, memory, grief, joy, and belonging.

 

My work moves between two distinct painting styles that are connected through narrative. My colourful folk art draws from memory, ancestry, everyday life, and a sense of innocence and simplicity, while my ethereal cloudscapes are more intuitive, exploring change, light, the unseen, and our connection to something greater. Though visually different, both styles are ways of telling stories—one grounded in what we carry from the past, the other looking toward movement, transition, and what lies ahead.

 

I graduated from NSCAD University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Design and have worked professionally as an artist since 2009, while remaining primarily self-taught as a painter. I also hold a Master’s in Counselling Psychology and run a private therapy practice. My work in mental health has strengthened my belief that art can offer a powerful way to process experience and express what words alone cannot.

I am a published author of several mental health self-help guides and scholarly articles in mental health literacy among adolescents and First Nations children (publications listed below). My life centers around the Indigenous Holistic healing  including that of art and simple living on my little seaside homestead with my wonderful partner and our little family.​

I have been a professional artist since 2009 with my paintings currently hanging in public and private galleries across Canada and the United States.
